Next Monday, I will go out to vote. This is a right that I exercised ever since I turned 18 which, of course, was eons ago. The right to suffrage was fought for by my fore "mothers" and I will always value it.
Can you imagine what it was like in the olden days when women were considered inferior? Those dark years when women had no social essence? No social importance? The men in their families had every right to do whatever they wanted to do to them. Unbelievably, this injustice still exists in some uncivilised parts of the world. Do you remember that video of a young girl who was beaten to death in public by her own family because she fell in love with a boy who was not of their choice? Do you remember the horror? I can't understand how they could do that! It is a despicable, despicable practice that must have been conceived by Satan himself.
Imagine what our fore mothers went through to defy this social imbalance. Their courage to demand for change made the right to suffrage MY birthright. Because of them I have a say in this society. Because of them I am a citizen.
This is what I am teaching Kayla. I am teaching her to value what is hers now because sometime ago, it was not. Her ears perk up when I give her life lessons making me feel that she will pass on these lessons to her own children. I am glad.
With the past and the future in mind, I gave her an important tip for when she starts to vote and that is to always remember not to get a manicure before the election day but wear nail polish so that the indelible ink will not be on her nail for three weeks.

Jejemon
Definition - Latin or Spanish version of "hehe" which is an expression of amusement. It also means writing text messages in shorthand. 3 for the letter E, 4 for the letter A, 13 is B, etc. It also means putting u after a Tagalog verb when pertaining to an action that someone did.
It's a habit that I told Kayla to never ever develop when I gave her her first cellphone when she was 5 years old. Write text messages properly or no cellphone forever. Thankfully, she obeyed although she does use some shortcuts now that she's a bit older. Jejemon is a habit that affects communication skills and it can seriously damage a person's spelling instincts. Kayla takes pride in her language so Jejemon isn't exactly favored. It's a total turn off... the level of which surpasses bad breath and body odor combined.
Kayla met this cute young man at an activity this weekend. I found this young man cute and respectful and seemingly socially responsible so I didn't object when he asked for her number. Alas, he texts in Jejemon.
The trouble with EhiOow pFhoUwh... is gHoOdBvhAiyhXzS!
